Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit their work to this journal. All submissions will be evaluated by an editor to determine if they meet the journal’s objectives and scope. Suitable submissions will undergo a peer review process before a decision is made on acceptance or rejection.

Before submitting, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included in their work, such as photos, documents, and datasets. All identified authors must consent to being listed as authors. Where applicable, research must be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the country of study.

An editor may reject a submission if it does not meet minimum quality standards. Before submitting, ensure that the study design and research argument are well-structured and articulated. The title should be concise, and the abstract should be self-contained. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers accepting the manuscript for evaluation. Once confident that the submission meets this standard, proceed to the checklist below to prepare your submission.

1. General Guidelines

  • Submissions must be made exclusively through the OJS platform here; email submissions will not be accepted.

  • Submission, review, and processing of manuscripts in Ciencias de la Ingeniería are free of charge for authors.

  • Manuscripts can be submitted in Spanish or English; however, the title, abstract, and keywords must be provided in both languages.

  • Authors must use the CdI Template (download here). Read the provided instructions and the Author Guidelines before submission.

  • The responsible Editor will initially evaluate all submissions to determine suitability for the journal, ensuring they present original scientific research results, align with the journal's editorial focus, comply with basic formatting guidelines, and contribute valuable scientific knowledge.

  • After the preliminary selection, the responsible Editor will send the manuscript to two peer reviewers. The evaluation follows a double-blind review process, maintaining the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. Reviewers will assess the manuscript’s scientific and academic quality and its merit for publication.

  • Based on the reviewers’ assessments, the Editor will decide whether the article is Publishable, Publishable with Modifications, or Not Publishable. The author will be informed of the decision along with the reviewers’ comments.

  • If the article is deemed Publishable with Modifications, the author must make the required revisions within the deadline set by the editor, submitting a response document using the Observation Response Template (download here). Failure to meet these requirements may result in rejection.

  • The Editor has the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of articles.

  • Rejected manuscripts may not be resubmitted.

2. Format, Length, and Presentation

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format in either Spanish or English, with a maximum file size of 20 MB.

  • Authors must use the CdI Template (download here), and the maximum text length is 7,000 words, including references.

  • Research Articles must include at least the following sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Conclusions, and References. Review Articles have a flexible structure.

3. Authorship

  • Ciencias de la Ingeniería follows a double-blind review process, so authors must ensure that submitted files maintain anonymity by not including names, acknowledgments, or funding sources in the manuscript or file properties.

  • Any reference to the authors must be removed from the manuscript. This information should be included in the metadata on the OJS platform during submission, providing each author’s ORCID ID.

  • Once the editorial process has started, no new authors may be added, except under justified exceptions.

  • The submission must include a Signed Authorship Statement (download here) from all authors.

  • Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the work. For articles with multiple authors, contributions must be declared following the CRediT taxonomy in the Authorship Statement.

  • Once the article is accepted for publication, a short paragraph specifying individual contributions will be included following the CRediT taxonomy.

4. First and Second Pages of the Manuscript

  • The first page must include the title in both Spanish and English.

  • The second page must include the abstract in Spanish (maximum 300 words) and English (maximum 250 words), along with 4 to 5 keywords.

  • The abstract should outline the problem, summarize the research objectives, methodology, results, and key conclusions, highlighting original contributions.

  • Keywords should be separated by commas, with the first keyword capitalized.

5. In-Text Citations

  • Manuscripts must acknowledge external intellectual contributions through proper citation using the IEEE citation format.

  • In-text citations should be numbered consecutively in brackets, e.g., [1]. For works with three or more authors, cite the first author followed by "et al." [2].

  • Short direct quotes (<40 words) should be placed in quotation marks, followed by the reference and page number [3, p.xx].

  • Long direct quotes (>40 words) should be formatted as a block quote with a 1 cm indent, followed by the reference [4, pp.xx].

  • References should be listed in order of appearance at the end of the manuscript.

  • Authors should minimize self-citations, keeping them below 15% with a maximum of three self-references.

6. Figures

  • Figures include graphs, maps, and photographs.

  • Figures should be numbered consecutively (e.g., Figure 1) and referenced accordingly within the text.

  • Below each figure, include a caption and indicate the source and license.

  • Excel-generated graphs must have default titles and frames removed, with only the caption provided below.

7. Tables

  • Tables provide additional data (e.g., statistical tables).

  • Tables should be numbered consecutively (e.g., Table 1) and referenced accordingly within the text.

  • Above each table, include a title and source in lowercase.

  • Tables must be submitted in editable format (e.g., Excel)—image formats will not be accepted.

8. References

  • References must follow the IEEE format.

  • A minimum of 20 references is required, with at least one-third from publications within the last five years.

  • Articles must include the DOI where available.

  • At least 70% of references should be from indexed scientific journals (WOS-ISI, SCOPUS, SCiELO, etc.).

  • Self-citations should be kept below 15%, with a maximum of three self-references.

9. Acceptance

  • Accepted manuscripts must provide figures as JPG files (minimum 1200 px, 300 dpi resolution) and tables as Excel files.

  • After the blind review, acknowledgments and funding sources will be added. Individual contributions will be specified following the CRediT taxonomy.
